Orpheus: You HAVE to be doing this on purpose...

LeFtY: The american education system is worse off than you think. At the school I work for, we have seniors drpping out of school because they don't like the new "no holes in your jeans at school" rule.

[sarcasm]ooo, crossed swords with mike[/sarcasm]

my mother teaches in Newington, CT, USA.

not as bad as inner city schools by any means, but there is still a bit of disturbing conduct. alot of which comes from the medias portrayel of inner city schools. especially those in california. eg from those teen sitcom thingies that I never watch but get the general message of. (someone name one for me)

alot what they show is how everybody is cool. and I accually mean HOW they are cool. so if the people in the show do it, regular people imitate.

worseing situation. more on that latter though

Even over here down under in Australia we share the same problem, youth of today live for the moment and don?t see the big picture.
School is only for a short time in your life, I was succumbed by peer pressure at school and rebelled against the system, and I see today that it is worse with the gang issues in schools.
The sad fact is that once these kids leave and get on with their adult life some will not break that mentality and the others like myself will have to work hard to achieve our goals.
Fortunately for me I have moved on from these times and have secured a very well paid position within a mining company management team.
Sure I wish I paid attention at school, I would have had this job many years earlier, what worries me is that youth of today don?t want to get into trades such as mechanical (Fitter and turning), carpentry, plumbing etc.
We will have a shortage of skilled labour and to many thinkers (uni students), it?s like the saying "to many Chief's and not enough Indians".

Yeah. A lot of my ukrainian-immigrant friends are obsessed with "Fast and the Furious" cars and they want to get sweet tricked out honda civics when they are 16 so they quit school and put stucco on condos for $10 an hour. Which is GREAT money for a 16-year-old, but they don't listen to reason that says that they will be earning $10 for the rest of thier lives. I earn $9 an hour for sitting around and fixing computers. I also walk around campus and visit my friends who still go to that school, and some teachers who are my friends.

Over here in cheap-arse Yankland, people regularly do more than one job, like my school's history teacher was the girls basketball coach and athletic director.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 04:48:23 UTC Post #179436
the girls basketball coach
Sound like a job for LeFtY

Teehee...
$9 an hour
Thats not alot, is this a side line to your teaching?

Our tech's are on around $25.00 AU an hour and we are currently trading at 76.00 cents = $1.00 American. So that would make it around $18.75 American per hour for our technicians
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 06:11:23 UTC Post #179441
Again, cheap-arse Yankland. :P One wage. He's not a "professional" technician, he just does the same work as one.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 07:52:12 UTC Post #179447
I forgot to add that in the city they only get around $17.00 AU dollars per hour, I work 600 KM away from the city, thats why they get more money, it attracts them to the remote outback. :)

I thought you were a teacher, not a technician?
Actually I'm both! I am the assistant technology coordinator for the district. Which pretty much means I'm a technician. We havea program for highschoolers taht allows them to be interns for 3 years and I teach that class. The kids who are in the class actively learn to fix and troubleshoot problems as they occur on campus. It's pretty cool.
religion is pointless, it only causes bad things to happen, anyone?
Jobabob, I'm not gonna fall for your bait!!! Okay, yeah I am. :glad: I think that Religion in general is a good concept because it gives people hope in life. Lots of people don't want to think that we are just lumps of cells that are abortable at any time.
Really you could say that same thing about science and technology. Sure we have cars now, but the earth is gonna overheat, we have antibiotics, but now the bacteria are becoming immune. The simple fact of the matter is that EVERYTHING causes bad things to happen. Even if its something really good.
Like sex with your mother: good thing. Bad result: you. :P

Lefty: I don't have any college degree and I'm part-time. I know $9 sucks. I will hopefully be getting a raise soon anyway. But our school district is poor, and the new superintendant is like "I can hire some nub to replace you and he will work for $6!!" I was like "go ahead, good luck on him finding out how I've got everything arranged..."
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 15:33:54 UTC Post #179507
I do actually agree to an extent that religion gives people hope, unfortunately at the same time it is responsible for so much crazy fucking shit in the world that really shouldnt happen, that its hard not to wish it just wasnt there
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 19:54:27 UTC Post #179531
the new superintendant is like "I can hire some nub to replace you and he will work for $6!!"
Over here in Australia we call that work place bullying, this "Autocratic" behaviour is not acceptable and is reportable, the offender can be :
1. Fined.
2. Sacked.
3. extreme cases will mean jail.

I had a boss whom treated me the same way, I got in touch with the employee's advocate, he sent me some forms, I filled them out and a meeting was arranged.
That boss was saked and fined, it was up to me to press charges for jail sentance.
This type of management is unacceptable and was outlawed in the mid to late seventy's.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 22:30:49 UTC Post #179544
Yeah, Jobabob, there are some religions I sure wish didn't exist.

Right now, I get paid almost as much as a regular teacher. If he pays me MORE than the teachers, they will whine and moan and piss their flaps about how they have a college degree and have been teaching for 40 years, and I've got only a 2-year degree and been working there for 6 years. Our pay amounts are a matter of public record since we are government employees.

A first-year teacher at our district gets paid like $20,000 a year. They are considering hiring me on at 20g for full-time, with paid vacation and insurance and all that.

What sucks even more aobut the american ed system is that an associates degree doesn't count because it is only "general education requirements." and yet, the Government mandates that the first two years of college have to be this "general ed" shite that you dont get pay raises for!! ITS A SCAM!
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-11 22:37:23 UTC Post #179546
dont you get paid more for each higher degree you have.. like instead of an accociotes get a bachleors.. or something higher.. wouldnt that qualify you for more pay?

College teachers make $9 an hour? Wow, that's weak.
My sister made around $11-12 (more or less) selling shit on the phone to people, without any degree in anything, not even having finished school. But then again, the US = cheapz0rer.

Edit: Oh, and yeah, religion sucks.

Woohoo, did this thread turn out to be a does "religion suck or not" thread?

Religion = Originly a tool that helped people stand against all life's misery and sorrow. Like death that was always feared of. Religion made it less frightening by inventing the after world.
Later religion became a tool to inslave people, and add to the prists' wealth!

Religion is skewed today more than it ever was.

I think we're all wrong about all of life's mysteries and death is a good thing. Consider it a way to become assentiant and invisible to everyone around you. Who doesn't want to fly and go invisible, mess with people's dreams and poltergeist a room and watch the n00b mortals say, "how the hell did that get there." I'm not saying to go out and kill yourself, but consider it the next step in life, rather than the end of it.

Yes. Religion seems more evil than good. Not that i'm against it, i just think it's stupid for people to be so damn ignorant of the blatantly obvious. Life sucks ass then you die. But the obvious thing everyone loves, no matter what. This is what keeps us going and cheered from the misery. Love is the meaning of life, so stop hating and enjoy life and all of the crap you missed out on by hating.

Pacman-ghost-guy: Almost every religion is ABOUT love. so how can it be more evil than good, when you just said that Love is the meaning of life.
Christianity - "The second greatest commandment is this: 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.'"

Islam - "Love Allah, Love your neighbor, and do not bear false witness."

Judaeism - "Love your neighbor as yourself"

Buddhism - "Full of love for all things in the world; practicing virtue in order to benefit others, this man alone is happy."

Hinduism - "Look upon your neighbor as yourself"

Confucianism - "Seek to be in harmony with all your neighbors; live in amity with your brethren."

What the religion preaches is one thing - how people practice and intepret it is another. The fault isn't really in religion itself, it's human nature.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-13 18:09:15 UTC Post #179851

Life sucks ass
I object!

Life is good. Everyone who says life sucks looks only at particular cases. Life is good cause the world continues to exist.

The pain and evil we feel can be seperated into three classes:
1. Things like defections and deaseses. They happen because we are matter and matter decays. This sort of evil is rare. Only aproximitly 1 out of 50 people is born defected.
2. The harm done by people to other is a bit more common, but still rare. It usally apears in small scales like robbery or murder that affect a small number of people.
3. The harm done by man to himself is the most common of all the kinds of evil. This is mostly the desire of a man for more then he needs. The needs of man have a limit but the desire is limitless. When a man doesn't get what he desires he feels sorrow and sometimes does dangrous things in order to fulfil his desire. This desire might hurt others too, by taking away what they need to sustain themselfs.

The two last kinds of evil are created because of the stupidty of the ones who do the cruel acts or the ones the acts are being done on them.
